Looking to Hire Senior Level Account Executives

Posted by Kenny Tomlin on Friday, February 27, 2009 in Careers / Internships

We are currently looking to add two senior level Account Executives at Rockfish.  This has been the one area where I have made the most hiring mistakes over the past three years.

With designers and programmers, “the proof is in the pudding” sort-of-speak.  I can review your work, hear the passion in your voice, and listen to you answer a bunch of technical questions that I don’t even understand – but can tell if you’re clueless and ask Kent to confirm my suspicions.

The good news is I have learned a lot and now know what it takes to be successful in this role at Rockfish.  (One other thing I’ve learned is that we’ll be patient until we find the right person.)  Here’s what we are looking for:

  1. You must be able to remain engaged in multiple projects that are moving at tremendous speed.  Thinking on your feet, reacting to changes without stressing out, and the ability to move things forward everyday are extremely important in this role.
  2. You must be a strategic thinker.  There is no such thing as a project manager at Rockfish.  Project management is simply one part of your job that also includes partnering with our clients to make good ideas great.  If you’re simply managing a project toward an end-date then we have failed.  We want our clients to trust us as strategic partners that help make good projects great and we depend on our Account Executives to do that.
  3. You must carry yourself in a professional manner.  Great written and interpersonal skills are a must.  Professional attire and image are also key.
  4. You must be a likable person. You’ll be working closely with our internal team and our clients on big-idea projects that are moving quickly.  We don’t have time for egos or pessimism.  Smile, have fun, and come to work with a can-do attitude.

One final thing that I’ve learned is that 3 out of 4 is not enough.  You must be all of the above.

So, does this describe you?  If so, apply here.
