Break a Record and Support Childhood Literacy

Posted by Kenny Tomlin on Tuesday, September 22, 2009 in Project Launch

This week we launched a landing page on Walmart.com featuring Walmart’s partnership with Jumpstart, one of the nation’s leading non-profits that aims to prepare children so that every child enters school prepared to succeed.

Walmart is promoting the Jumpstart program and encouraging consumers to Read for the Record on October 8th, 2009. This Read for the Record event is aiming to beat the record for the most people reading the same book on the same day. Join Walmart and Jumpstart by reading Eric Carle’s The Very Hungry Caterpillar on October 8th. Last year’s record was 700,000, and this year’s goal is to break 1 million!

For those who do not already have the book, every Walmart store across the country will feature a limited edition copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar on sale for $8.  Walmart is also donating the net proceeds from the sale of the book to Jumpstart.

Learn more about Jumpstart and Read for the Record by joining the Twitter Party this Thursday, September 24, 2009 from 8 to 9 CST. Every 100th use of #jumpstart will receive a free copy of The Very Hungry Caterpillar!

To donate or pledge to read on October 8th, check out the website here: http://connect.walmart.com/jumpstart
